Dos & Dont's

Here are a few simple do’s and don’ts to make sure your interview goes well:

Do

  • Sell yourself. Each question is an opportunity to convince the interviewer that your skills and experience make you a good match for the job
  • Study the job description and prepare to talk about how your skills match up with the description in the interview
  • Make eye contact when listening to and answering questions
  • Arrive 10 minutes early
  • Have three questions ready to ask
  • Be prepared to talk about your strengths and weaknesses
  • Give thoughtful and complete answers to questions

Don’t

  • Dress inappropriately
  • Arrive late
  • Give one-word answers to questions
  • Act sullen or standoffish
  • Not make eye contact or give a weak handshake
  • Ask about pay
  • Come to the interview unprepared to talk about the job requirements
  • Criticize past companies you’ve worked at or reveal personal disputes from previous jobs
